  • Five Cuyahoga-county people test positive for coronavirus
    • All three Ohio victims are in their mid-50s (ALL INFO FROM Cleveland.com)
      • In their homes for quarantine, cooperating with doctors and authorities
      • Two are a married couple who were on a cruise on the Nile in Africa; one was at a conference in DC where multiple people have tested positive
      • Six others from Cuyahoga who had contact with them are self-quarantined 
    • Gov. DeWine has declared a State of Emergency in Ohio (https://www.cleveland.com/coronavirus/2020/03/ohio-is-under-a-state-of-emergency-because-of-the-coronavirus-what-does-that-mean.html).
    • 5 confirmed cases 
    • 30 negative cases
    • 52 under investigation
    • 333 under health supervision
    • An estimated 100K Ohioans carrying the virus
      • Multiple conferences, events, and public gatherings have been canceled
        • Including St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Dyngus Day
      • Gatherings of over 100 people banned
        • NOT including regular, day-to-day events such as retail/grocery stores, public transportation, airports, restaurants/bars, churches, etc.
      • All major Ohio-based sporting events are cancelled, including the NCAA mens and women’s basketball tournaments, Cavs games, Bluejackets games
        • Cavs team is quarantined for two weeks following the news that Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell have coronavirus
      • Many corporations are canceling their events, too
      • Many Universities have canceled in-person classes for up to a month, including Ohio State, John Carroll, Akron, Kent, Case Western Reserve, Miami University, Bowling Green, Ohio University, Toledo.
      • K-12 classes are suspended for at least three weeks, starting Monday, Feb. 16
    • Bernie Sanders & Joe Biden cancelled their Cleveland appearances Tuesday
    • Symptoms include (from Metrohealth: https://www.metrohealth.org/infectious-disease/coronavirus-covid-19):
      • Fever, cough, shortness of breath, headaches
      • Incubation period is 2-14 days after exposure
      • Severity can be mild respiratory illness to pneumonia
      • 80% of cases appear to be mild
      • Roughly 3% are fatal
      • Not an airborne virus; spread by touch & droplets from coughing/sneezing
      • Doctors strongly recommend frequently and thoroughly washing hands, avoiding contact with sick people, & refrain from touching face
      • Masks will do little to nothing since virus isn’t airborne
    • Nationwide, about 1400 cases and 39 deaths
    • All professional sports have been halted, including the NBA, NHL, MLB (opening day postponed at least 2 weeks and spring training is cancelled), NCAA men’s and women’s tournaments (both cancelled), Serie A, La Liga, MLS, and more.
      • Rumblings that many of these leagues will void the seasons
      • Champions League and PL almost certainly next
